The Hummingbird Therapeutic Activity Program seeks to bring happiness and delight to our clients by ensuring a fullness of life. It is our hope that clients will not only recognize the beauty in the world around them, but also the beauty within themselves.
The mission of Hospitality House is to bring homeless people in Nevada County into a circle of community caring that offers shelter, sustenance, medical care, advocacy, opportunity, dignity, and hope as we assist them in transitioning from homelessness to housing.
The Friendship Club provides a comprehensive, year-round, long-term program aimed at helping empower and educate youth who face challenges of poverty, abuse and trauma between the ages of 10 and 18 and provides assistance into their 20s as they transition into adulthood.
Nevada County Pets in Need began with an appeal for food for the pets of the local homeless people and then grew to include pet supplies and funds for veterinary care, vaccinations, flea meds and especially spay-neuter services. Before long we were providing the same services for pets of low income residents, veterans and senior residents of Nevada County.
The curriculum of tracking, wilderness survival, and nature awareness —and the well-trained instructors— give children and teens first-hand experience of how to “read” the landscape as stewards of the Earth. Using Mentor-Apprenticeship models of instruction, many children attend the program for a decade or more, taking on increasing responsibility until they are teaching the younger students as young adult interns.
